06 Oct A little Kindness goes a long way…
In our world today, it can seem like a very negative place… turn on the 6pm news and it is all we hear.. I hang for the end of the news, or only turn it on at the last part if I ever do, just to see the weather and surf report… the good stuff..
The other day, I was walking into Bunnings and a little girl was screaming her lungs out in a really big tantrum, her mum kneeling down at her level in the corner of the doorway, trying to stop her and everyone looking at her as they walked past. I walked past. Then stopped and went back to the lady. This toddler was screaming and yelling as tantruming goes – it was big… I stood just behind the mother for a moment and heard her at her wits end, starting to use threats to try and stop the screaming… I leant down, put my hand gently on the mother’s back and said, “Are you okay? Do you need some help?”
She turned around with a sense of relief… before she said anything, I said, “It is hard work sometimes hey, I know what it is like, it can be so challenging.” She didn’t say anything, it was almost like she didn’t know what to say, yet the sense of relief, acceptance, and understanding that was written across her face as her energy changed was all she needed to say. She gently picked up her screaming toddler and left.
I could’ve walked past and I could’ve kept going with my day. Yet that 2 minutes or less it took for me to reach out and say, hey are you alright, do you need some help? Took nothing… I could’ve kept going and judged her for her threats of trying to make her child stop screaming, yet I chose to drop into my heart – because I know EXACTLY what it is like to have hard days, especially with a screaming toddler.
We aren’t all perfect, we are fucking human. And we raise little humans without tribes. It can be fucking hard. Yet at the end of the day we love them, we love us and we love this life. Ultimately. Even at times it doesn’t seem like it, or feel like it.
So, instead of judging that stranger as you walk past, drop into your Heart and reach out… a little kindness goes a long way… we are the tribe, we are all in this together. It only takes one little hand to reach out to create a ripple and change the globe.
